Sprinkles

After months of anticipation, Sprinkles cupcakes opened in Chicago last week. The cupcake society was eager to grade these tasty treats, forgoing lunch to wait in line for our first box.

We taste tested the cinnamon, lemon, key lime, chocolate marshmallow and chocolate banana. We all agreed the cinnamon could be a breakfast treat, it tasted like a freshly baked doughnut with just the right amount of frosting. Same goes for the chocolate banana, which had a simple powdered sugar frosting. I thought the frosting was light enough for the banana cake, which had real bananas in it, though others were left craving a buttercream frosting. The lemon was a huge hit, as was the key lime. I'm not a huge fan of key lime, but this wasn't very "key-limey" as one of the members pointed out. The chocolate marshmallow fell flat with several members of the group, including myself. While I was the most excited for that one, it really missed the mark.

As Sweet Mandy B's loyalists, I think we were all surprised by how much we liked Sprinkles. Although I normally gravitate towards rich chocolate cupcakes, I liked the chocolate banana and cinnamon the best. I still think Sweet Mandy B's has the best standard cupcake, but I'd be willing to have a cupcake challenge with the dreamsicle cupcake against Sprinkles lemon cupcake.

Chicagoans, have you tried Sprinkles yet? What do you think?
